Surprise result in the last stage of group G at the Women's Handball World Championship. Sweden, ranked 4th in the previous edition, was defeated by Brazil, 27-31, and advances to the main stage from second place in its series.
World champions in 2013, Brazil has not been a force in world handball for the last 10 years. The best result in the previous 5 participations in the World Cup is the quarter-finals in 2021. At the most recent edition, in 2023, the South American team had to settle for 9th place and participation in the main stage.
In the current edition, Brazil seems to be on a high. Last evening overturned the calculations of the paper and defeated the Swedish national teamrated team with good chances to lift the trophy, immediately after the trio Norway – France – Denmark.

What followed, until the 50th minute, was a rollercoaster in which either the Brazilians were leading by one or two goals, or they were tied with the Scandinavian national team.
The decisive breakaway took place in the final minutes. Although he left with a second chance, odds between 4.80 and 6.60 to win, Brazil won 31-27 and finished Group G in first place with 6 points.
This means that Brazil advanced in the main group with 4 points and Sweden with only two. Their main group, the fourth, also includes Norway, the big favorite to lift the trophy. It will therefore be a distant duel between Brazil and Sweden for second place in the group and, implicitly, qualification in the quarters.
