The trial of the man who turned Liverpool's title celebration into a nightmare has begun

On Tuesday, November 25, the trial of former British soldier Paul Doyle, accused of in May, began drove into the crowd of fans who were celebrating Liverpool winning the Premier League title. The process is expected to take about a month.
At his hearing in early September, he pleaded not guilty, doing so via a live video feed from his jail cell. In the aforementioned tragic incident, which took place on May 26, 2025, 134 people were injured, ranging in age from 6 months to 77 years.

Police said Doyle, a father of three, used his vehicle as a weapon and drove into the crowd on purpose. Following the accident, some injured people were stuck under the car and had to be freed by lifting the vehicle. The youngest victim was a 6-month-old boy.
Some witnesses will testify behind protective screens. Doyle has been in custody since his arrest and was initially charged with 7 offences, with a further 24 added in August.
Thousands of fans gathered in Liverpool city center on 26 May 2025 to celebrate their 20th English Premier League title. The parade crossed the city on a route of about 16 kilometers. Among the fans was an open bus with Liverpool players.
The incident happened after 18:00 local time on Water Street. The man chased an ambulance during the festivities to get past the road barricades. A video shared on social media shows the driver repeatedly swerving into the crowd, apparently with the intention of hitting as many people as possible.
Witnesses tried to stop him, and several people were thrown over the hood of the car. Finally, the police intervened and detained the man, surrounded by the crowd. Rescue crews quickly arrived at the scene and transported the injured to hospital.
