“I lived in fear and humiliation.” In the Kyiv region, a stepfather is suspected of driving his stepdaughter to suicide

According to the prosecutor's office, the 39-year-old man was informed of the suspicion in October. The investigation established that for several years, while living with his partner and her children, he treated his stepdaughter cruelly.

“He systematically humiliated her, deprived her of the opportunity to study and rest, intimidated her with threats of “sending her to a boarding school.” In the cold season, he repeatedly kicked the girl out into the street without warm clothes, creating dangerous conditions for life and health,” the press service said about the details of the case.

Prosecutors noted that due to the child’s financial and domestic dependence on his stepfather, his vulnerability increased. According to the forensic medical examination, the minor committed suicide by hanging.

“The evidence obtained during the pre-trial investigation indicates a causal connection between the actions of the accused and the death of the child,” the UCP reported.

Now an indictment under Part 3 of Art. 120 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of seven to 10 years.
