Italy's Davis Cup team beat Spain 2-0 in the final in Bologna, the duel ending after the singles matches. Matteo Berrettini (29, ATP No. 56) defeated Pablo Carreno Busta (34, ATP No. 88), 6-3, 6-4, and Flavio Cobolli (23, ATP No. 22) got past Jaume Munar (28, ATP No. 36), 1-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5.
Italythe en-title champion, and Spainsix-time winner of the Silver Salad, met for the 14th time in the history of the competition, but the first time since 2006. Berrettini and his teammates were looking to take the overall score to 8-6, but more importantly, keep the trophy in their display case.
And they succeeded, after two matches, in the singles, won by Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli. Italy became the first nation in the post-Challenge Round era to capture three Davis Cup titles in a row and the first from the USA to achieve five consecutive triumphs between 1968 and 1972.

Matteo Berrettini opened the last act with the duel against him Pablo Carreno Bustthe veteran who responded positively to the call of non-playing captain David Ferrer, although he was scheduled to play a challenger tournament during this period to improve his ranking for next season.
Huge responsibility for both, ahead of the third match of the head-to-head record. So far, they had shared their wins, both in 2022, with the Italian winning on hard, the Spaniard on clay.
In the Supertennis Arena in Bologna filled with spectators, mostly locals, the two played a close and emotional match. Throughout the match, Matteo served very well, having a strong ally in his first shot. A single shakier game appeared in the first set at 1-1, but without facing a break point.
On the other side, Carreno looked for his lapel as much as possible, avoiding the powerful, devastating right, and built nice, smart points to compensate for the difference in strength.

It was the Spaniard who succumbed to the pressure serving to 3-4 in the first act and at 4-4 in the second, when the end of the act inevitably approached. His hand was shaking, his thinking was no longer clear, and Berrettini was there, alert, to capitalize on any opportunity. Carreno Busta had a difficult game at the start of the second half, but then he managed to recover, saving two break points.
In the end, however, the superiority of Matteo Berrettini dictated the outcome, 6-3, 6-4, and Italy was taking a first step towards defending the title.

“I am very satisfied with my progress. In Davis Cup, usually it's not about how you play or your tennis performance, it's about winning, especially in the finals. The goal was to start the day off right, and that's what I did. I am very pleased and proud of it. It was a very good performance”, said the Italian in the interview on the pitch.
Flavio Cobolli brought victory for his country!
The second game was against him Flavio Cobollithe hero in the dramatic victory against Belgium, and Jaume Munarwho performed well in the semi-finals against Alexander Zverev, losing after two sets in a tie-break.

The Spaniard burst from the starting blocks like a 100m flat race and distanced himself in the first set at 5-0 playing almost perfect tennis. Inspired, exactly, with good energy, confirming this year's progress. On the other hand, the Italian did not have time to settle his game, pulling only one range. 6-1 Munar, who also started the second act with a break.
to 0-1 and a break chance for Cobolli, a spectator in the Supertennis Area in Bologna felt sick and needed medical attention. The match was interrupted for 9 minutes, and when it resumed, the Spaniard lost a lot of the quality of the game.
On the other side, that of the opponent flourished. This year's champion from Bucharest equalized, then reached a totally different level, especially with the forehand and the smash, compared to the first part of the match. Finished with 20 forehand winners in a set won on tie-break, 7-5. And he celebrated as if for the final victory, jumping and punching the air.

The decider was tighter than ever, with the two going to 5-5 without a scratch. There Munar trembled and Cobolli accessed higher levels of concentration. He made the break, then sealed the next game to 0, giving Italy their third Davis Cup win in a row!
Jaume played very well in the first set and my shots were not good, but I looked at my bench and found something in my body and heart to give everything for this team – Flavio Cobolli
But we couldn't lose, for our country. You never lose if you give it your all. I don't know what happened today or where I am, but we are world champions – Flavio Cobolli
