Romania, another drastic defeat in the preliminaries of the 2027 European Women's Basketball Championship

Romania's national women's basketball team suffered a tough defeat in Group C of the EuroBasket 2027 qualifiers. In the Olimpia Hall in Ploiesti, the tricolors lost 88-56 against Slovakia and end this first window with a 1-2 record.

Romania started the EuroBasket 2027 qualification campaign right, beating Cyprus 75-62 away. Then came a huge 41-86 setback in Poland, and the Eagles were back on home soil looking for revenge against Slovakia.

The inaugural act was balanced (19-17), and the audience in Sala Olimpia in Ploiești was hoping for an important result that would preserve the chances of Cătălin Tănase's students in this phase of the preliminaries.

But starting with the second sequence, Slovakia took control of the game and began to dominate. Romania lost the next 3 quarters and suffered another drastic defeat: 56-88.

After this first window, Romania occupies the 3rd place in group C of the EuroBasket 2027 qualifiers. The next window will be played in March 2026, and the “Eagles” will have 2 games at home and one away.
