Novak Djokovic's retirement announcement: 'I want to end my career at the 2028 Olympics'

“I want to end my career at the 2028 Olympics, holding the flag of Serbia,” wrote sport.aktuality.sk about the champion with 24 Grand Slam titles. Last year, Novak Djokovic stated that he was no longer interested in the ATP rankings and was only focusing on Grand Slams and international competitions. Recently, the tennis player rejected the idea that his retirement is near.

“People want me to stop, but that won't happen anytime soon. A long career is one of my biggest motivations. I want to see how far I can go. Seeing LeBron James and Cristiano Ronaldo still playing after 40 years motivates me. They are an inspiration to me,” said Novak Djokovic, according to the quoted source.

Novak Djokovic has more and more physical problems. This is also seen in the increasingly frequent retreats of the Serbs. Most recently, Novak Djokovic withdrew from the Turin Tournament of Champions. His place was taken by the Italian Lorenzo Musetti.

After defeating the Italian in the ATP tournament in Athens, Novak Djokovic announced that he will withdraw from the tournament, confirming that his opponent from Greece, being the first down the line, will compete in the tournament in his home country. The reason cited by Novak Djokovic was an injury.

I was happy at the thought of playing in Turin, where I would have given my best. But after today's final in Athens, I'm sad that I have to retire due to an injury. I'm really sorry for the fans who were hoping to see me play, your support means a lot to me. I wish all the players a great tournament and I can't wait to be on the field with you again
