New case of femicide in Romania: 25-year-old woman, killed by her husband in front of their youngest child on a street in Teleorman

A 25-year-old mother of three children was killed by her husband in front of the youngest of them, in Beciu town, Teleorman county, according to the police and local media.

• The crime comes in the context where, according to Snoop.ro, on average every three days a man tries to kill a woman, and in the first seven months of this year there were 46 cases in which women attacked died.
• At the end of last month, 273 parliamentarians signed for the submission of a draft law that introduces for the first time in Romanian legislation the term “femicide”, i.e. the killing of a woman or girl based on gender criteria. It is the legislative initiative with the largest number of supporters in the post-December history of the Romanian Parliament.

What the Police say about the murder in Teleorman

IPJ Teleorman reported that the crime took place on Saturday evening, being reported to the Police by a man who called 112 to say that a woman was unconscious on the street in Beciu commune.

According to the police, the young carer was with her three-year-old son and was stabbed by her husband, from whom she had been separated for several months. The medical team that arrived at the scene tried resuscitation maneuvers, but declared him dead.

“The 42-year-old man was identified at his parents' home, with wounds on his hands and neck. From the investigations, it was established that the man had self-injured himself,” IPJ Teleorman also specified.

The victim was stabbed 15 times, according to local media

ImpactNews24 wrote that the tragedy occurred in front of the local church on the victim's name day, whose name was Mihaela.

The local publication states that, according to witnesses, she was waited for by the assailant, from whom she tried to run away, but was stabbed 15 times.

According to the quoted source, the victim's father stated that he was both physically and verbally assaulted by the criminal's father after the victim had requested a protection order against his son.

Their three children, aged up to 6 years, lived divided between their parents: the two oldest stayed with the father, and the youngest with the mother. Neighbors claim that the woman was constantly threatened by her husband, ImpactNews24 also wrote.
