A woman in Germany gave birth to quintuplets. 25 doctors attended the birth of the five babies

A woman gave birth to five children at the Charité hospital in Berlin, a “rarity” in the medical world, as the maternity representatives quoted by the German agency dpa point out. The birth took place at the end of September, and the mother and the newborns, two girls and three boys, are doing well.

“The birth of quintuplets is a medical rarity,” the hospital said in a statement. The five babies, delivered by caesarean section at the end of the 28th week of pregnancy, have already doubled their birth weight, the doctors said.

“A Special Challenge”

The babies and their mother are doing well, hospital representatives said in a statement.

Wolfgang Henrich, the hospital's director, said quintuplet births are an extraordinary event for even the most experienced obstetricians, as well as a special logistical challenge.

An interdisciplinary team of 25 doctors was present at the birth of the five children.

“A birth like this requires a perfectly coordinated team of obstetricians, anaesthetists, neonatologists, midwives and specialized operating room nurses. We are glad that everything went smoothly and that mother and children are doing well”Wolfgang Henrich also said.

It is not known whether the babies' mother became pregnant naturally or through artificial insemination.

“We are happy to be able to hold our five children, healthy and safe, in our arms,” added the mother, quoted in the hospital's statement.
