Man from Bihor sentenced to 12 years in prison for hitting his neighbor with his car, while he was holding the 2-year-old child in the back
The Bihor court sentenced 54-year-old Viorel Vese to 12 years in prison for attempted murder, after he intentionally hit his neighbor with his car, while the victim was carrying his 2-year-old child on his back. The court also ordered the payment of 30,000 euros in compensation to each victim and the confiscation of the vehicle used in the attack, notes ebihoreanu.ro.

The incident took place on January 29, 2024, on the main street in Surduc village, Copăcel commune. The aggressor and the victim, a 34-year-old man, are neighbors and protagonists of an older conflict, fueled by an episode that happened a few years ago, when Vese allegedly robbed the victim's mother, and the young man allegedly hit the aggressor.
On the day of the attack, Vese noticed the victim walking on the side of the road with the child in the back and accelerated, sending the father and child into a ditch. The images captured by witnesses and obtained by the quoted source show how Vese drives back to try a second shot, but the victim dodges at the last moment.
Police officers of the Bihor Criminal Investigation Service arrived at the scene after the victim called 112. The car used in the attack was found in the yard of the assailant, who had tried to hide in the garden. The father and the child were transported to UPU Oradea County Clinical Hospital for investigations; their injuries were not life-threatening.
In the meeting on Monday, November 3, the Bihor Court upheld the charge of attempted murder and rejected the defendant's request to change the legal classification in crimes of assault and other violence. Vese was acquitted of the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court banned the defendant from electing, being elected or holding public office for five years after serving his sentence and from coming within 50 meters of the victims. He must also pay 10,000 lei for legal expenses to the victim and 4,000 lei to the state. The sentence can be appealed within 10 days of notification.
