Everyone crossing the Ukrainian border with Poland through the Yagodin-Dorogusk and Ustilug-Zosin checkpoints must register on the Polish side at a self-service terminal or with a border service officer.
It involves the collection of biometric data – photographing and fingerprinting. For children under 12 years of age, fingerprinting is not required. On subsequent entries, biometric data will be automatically checked against existing Schengen digital information, the statement said.
The State Border Guard Service previously warned that Polish border guards began testing a new biometric control system at checkpoints with Ukraine in September. The system involves reading faces and taking fingerprints both at entry and exit.
The system was planned to be launched back in November 2024, but the procedure was repeatedly postponed due to technical delays. Full implementation is expected before April 10, 2026.
