Florin Prunea (57 years old) was mocked by his colleague from the “Golden Generation”, Ilie Dumitrescu (56 years old), after the former goalkeeper of the Romanian national team commented on the performances of the goalkeepers from Craiova University – Rapid 2-2.

After Prunea stated that both Marian Aioani and Pavlo Isenko were wrong on crosses, Ilie Dumitrescu reminded his former colleague from the national team of the quarter-finals of the World Championship in 1994, when Prunea made a serious mistake with a cross, from which Sweden, through Kennet Andersson, managed to restore the tie, later winning the match on penalty kicks.

Florin Prunea, mocked live by Ilie Dumitrescu: “You were supposed to cross at Kennet”

“Both goalkeepers made a mistake in the second half. I was going out for both, but you have to take some risks, play the ball, not the head,” said Florin Prunea, according to digisport.ro.

Present in the studio, Ilie Dumitrescu mocked Prunea: “You were supposed to center at Kennet there. Now…“.

I went out, too. And Aioani went out at 2-1 and came back at 2-2. And I did the same. Didn't I do the same? Only for me it was direct, it was no longer a penaltyPrunea replied.

In the 1994 edition of the World Championship, the Romanian national team was very close to a semi-final with Brazil, the team that would win the final tournament.

Tomas Brolin then opened the scoring for Sweden in the 78th minute, but the match was pushed into extra time after the success of Florin Răducioiu, from the 88th minute.

The same Răducioiu brought Romania to the advantage, in the 100th minute, and the national team was also in numerical advantage, after the elimination of Stefan Schwarz, from the 101st minute.

However, Sweden equalized in the 115th minute through Kenneth Andersson, after Florin Prunea had misjudged a cross.

Sweden would qualify on penalties, 5-4, after Dan Petrescu and Miodrag Belodedici missed from the penalty spot.
