Lemons will rise in price by 25% – up to 230 rubles per kg. The reason is a poor harvest in Turkey and logistical difficulties during transportation from Egypt.
Citrus fruits are exported to the Russian Federation mainly by two suppliers – Türkiye and Egypt. On April 8, Turkish supplies abroad temporarily stopped due to bad weather and crop failure. Then export was allowed, but due to difficulties, the wholesale price was already equal to the market price – 180 rubles. The market price with a markup will follow it and amount to 220–230 rubles. Just a month ago, the same Turkish lemons cost 130–140 rubles/kg.
They want to replace the shortfall in supplies from Turkey with Egyptian ones and are establishing logistics. Lemons from Egypt are different – they are significantly more sour and often green in color (and these are unsuitable for consumption). But these citrus fruits will also rise in price to 180–200 rubles per kg due to transportation. The highest quality lemons are Chinese, but they are more expensive even than Turkish ones – 350 rubles/kg. Already now in supermarkets fruits cost 180–190/kg.
