Earthquake of magnitude 6.2 in Istanbul. The tremors began at 12:50 local time – the entire city of 15 million people ran out onto the streets. There is a threat of aftershocks.
According to eyewitnesses, there were two tremors at the airport near the Balat quarter. People packed their things and evacuated the building.
Tourists who are now in Istanbul told Mash about the beginning of the earthquake: the house was shaking, furniture was rattling, problems with cellular communications and the Internet. Residents of the Akaretler district in Besiktas complain that their houses are shaking badly.
