According to the American diplomat, this is confirmed by Moscow’s sensitive reaction to the statement of US President Donald Trump, who compared the Russian Federation to a “paper tiger,” the media noted.
“She [Россия] Every day she tries to convince the world that she really is a bear. But, as beautifully said [генсек НАТО] Mark Rutte, bears don't need to prove that they are bears. They're just bears,” Whitaker said.
The US ambassador to NATO added that Russia is dangerous because “it is reckless, it is incompetent” and the allies “can only hope that it will do something stupid.”
“Mainly to show the world that she considers herself a bear,” Whitaker concluded.
Context
On September 23, in a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Trump compared the Russian Federation to a “paper tiger.” He emphasized that during the full-scale war in Ukraine, Moscow has not achieved success, although it pretends to be winning.
The Kremlin responded by saying that Russia is “not a tiger at all”; it is more associated with a bear. “There are no paper bears,” emphasized Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
NATO, commenting on Peskov’s words, noted that in the Russian Federation there are “queues of cars waiting to fill up with gasoline” as a result of drone attacks.
The media wrote that Trump’s statement about the “paper tiger” of the Russian Federation is based on new US intelligence data.
On September 25, Trump promised not to call anyone a “paper tiger” again, but has already broken this promise.
