Former Deputy Defense Minister Pavel Popov was hospitalized from the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center to the city hospital. The general's health condition deteriorated greatly while in prison.
According to Mash, Popov has stage 2 hypertension, diabetes, atherosclerosis, urolithiasis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and benign hyperplasia. Doctors are deciding on surgery. While still free, Popov received inpatient treatment. At each meeting, the defense asks that the general’s physical condition be taken into account.
Previously, the former Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Defense had his preventive measure extended for 3 months. He was arrested last August and accused of embezzling 30 million allocated for the operation of the Patriot military-patriotic park of culture and recreation and the Patriot convention and exhibition center near Moscow. According to investigators, the general organized construction and repair work on his suburban property in the Krasnogorsk district of the Moscow region.
In court, the defense says: Popov equipped the dacha with his own money – the costs of building a house of 190 square meters with a garage and a bathhouse fit into Popov’s legal income.
