Present at a forum organized in Soci, Vladimir Putin condemned to intercept the ship off the French coasts, claiming that the action has no legal basis.
“It is piracy. Because (…) the oil was approached in neutral waters, without any basis. Obviously, they were looking for something, military goods, drones or things like this. But there is nothing like this there”, Said the Russian president, quoted by News.ro.
Putin said that the ship was not under the Russian flag: “The oil was under the flag of a third country, indeed with an international crew. Honestly, I don't know how much is related to Russia”.
At the same time, the Kremlin leader suggested that the French authorities have tried, through this incident, “to distract the attention of the population ” from “The difficult internal political situation ” from France.
The reaction of Paris
The same day, President Emmanuel Macron asked the European states to strengthen the measures against the Russian fleet, accused of helping Moscow bypass Western sanctions. “We need to take a step in the policy of obstructing the Russian fleet-ghost”, Said the French leader.
Meanwhile, the oil captain is to be tried in France for “Opposition to arrest”
