Tore O. Sandvik on drones incidents: “they do not pose a threat”

In recent days, drones were to disturb the operation of the main airports in Norway, including Oslo-Gardermoen. On Sunday evening, two passenger aircraft was redirected with a total number of 180 passengers to other emergency airports. Sandvik, however, pointed out that none of the Norwegian services – from the police to intelligence services – unambiguously confirmed that the direct cause of disturbances were unmanned.
The Minister of Defense assured that Norway has technology that allows you to effectively shoot down combat drones.
– Norway has never fell victim to this type of attack. The unmanned aerial vehicles seen in our sky performed only reconnaissance functions – he said. He also pointed to differences as threats in Norway and other allied countries. “In contrast to our allies, we did not deal with Shahed drones (kamikaze),” said Sandvik during his speech.
The problem related to Norway's airspace reaches further. Only this year there was a three -time violation of the Norwegian airspace by Russian military aircraft, which is the first such case in a decade.

Last week, Norwegian services recorded several dozen applications regarding the appearance of unidentified drones in the vicinity of the airports – this situation led to the temporary closure of several airports.
These events raise questions about the safety of Norway and the mobilization of its defense capabilities in the face of growing tensions in the region. Although Sandvik ensures the effectiveness of the Norwegian defense system, the recognition of drones leaves a field to discuss the reality of threats or potential sources of these incidents.
