Literally 1984: Britain was offered to ban marriages between brothers and sisters
Politician Richard Holden made the initiative to ban marriages between cousins and sisters due to the risk of children With congenital defects.
He substantiated his proposal by the need to “protect public health”.
Holden noted that despite the decrease in the prevalence of the mentioned category of marriages, in some diasporas the popularity of such unions is from 20 to 40%.
In Britain, marriages between close relatives are already prohibited, but this ban does not apply to cousins and sisters.
