I had a discussion with him, I think in 2012, when he was offered to be a prime minister. He came to me, I received him at the insistence of some colleagues who said he was an extraordinary man. After half an hour I realized that it is a guy who states 1,000 problems but has no solutions for them“, Basescu told Romania TV.

The former president added that, after only 20 minutes of discussion, he considered that he was not worth the dialogue: “He is talented, He is a talented man to attract, convince, explain things superficially. You will not see him approaching the problems deeply”.

The statement was made in the context of the discussion about the annulment of the presidential elections and the indictment in which the name of Călin Georgescu appears alongside 22 other people.

Basescu suggested that the elections were not canceled if Marcel Ciolacu had reached the second round of the poll.

Personally, I do not think there is a motivation for the cancellation of the elections and all the time I said that if Ciolacu had entered the second round, the elections would not be canceled, it is the opinionA, “said Basescu.

He also referred to the recently drawn up indictment in the file Călin Georgescu, stressing that the document did not exist at the time of the cancellation decision: “This document, which is not definitive, did not exist on December 6 and then it remains to ask on what base the elections were canceled. ”

In addition, the former president allowed it to be understood that, in his opinion, Georgescu is the result of “a Dâmbovițean game” than of an operation orchestrated by Moscow: “It is the creation of the structures of the Romanian state, it has been spun in many institutions, including in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
