Both sides described the conversation as pragmatic and constructive – emphasized the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

XI emphasized in it that the Chinese authorities expect solutions that will respect market principles and law.

– China's position on Tiktok is clear: the Chinese government respects the intentions of enterprises and with satisfaction accepts commercial negotiations in accordance with the market principles in order to achieve solutions in accordance with Chinese regulations and regulations, while balancing interests – we read in the communiqué.

XI expressed the hope that the authorities in Washington “will provide Chinese enterprises investing in the US open, fair and non -discriminatory business environment.”

He appealed to Trump that his administration would refrain from “imposing unilateral trade restrictions”, which could undermine many rounds of commercial negotiations, and called for continuing a dialogue based on mutual respect. At the same time, he assessed that recent consultations between China and the US teams “were an expression of the spirit of equality, respect and reciprocity.”

Customs war in the sleep phase?

As a result of the customs war started by Trump, both sides threatened to impose over 100 % customs rates on each other. In May, after the first direct negotiations in Geneva, the countries concluded a temporary and shaky truce, according to which the rate on goods from China fell to 30 percent, and the Chinese rate on goods from the USA – up to 10 percent. An agreement on the lower duties expires in November.

The last two -day meeting, completed on Monday, took place in Madrid. After the end of these conversations, Trump announced that they had resulted in an “agreement on” a certain company “. The agreement on Tiktok was confirmed by the American Minister Scott Bessent and US representative for Jamieson Greer trade. However, they refused to provide the details of the contract except that the application was to be sent to American control.

Earlier, Trump has repeatedly postponed the prohibition for the activities of the application in the USA, which was to force her Chinese company-maternal company to sell American operations for national security reasons. It is considered to take over the Tiktok in the USA by a consortium with the participation of, among others Oracle. Trump has extended the date for finalizing the transaction by Bytedance until December 16.

After a conversation without details

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the note did not provide details regarding any agreement or arrangements in commercial issues.

According to the Chinese side, Trump was to ensure that “Washington strives for the development of bilateral economic and commercial cooperation, would support the ongoing consultations between the two parties and intends to properly solve the issue of Tiktok.”

Trump emphasized that relations between the United States and China are “the most important bilateral relations in the world.” He assured that Washington was ready to cooperate with Beijing “to maintain world peace.”

Trump also referred to the military parade on the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in the Far East, which passed through the streets of Beijing 4 September, describing it as “spectacular”.

Trump: very fruitful conversation

“I just finished a very fruitful conversation with the chairman of China XI. We have achieved progress in many very important issues, such as trade, fentanyl, the need to end the war between Russia and Ukraine and approval of the Tiktoku agreement,” wrote Trump on the Truth Social social network. In the further part of the entry, he expressed gratitude XI for his consent in the case of Tiktok.

The US President also announced that he had agreed with the XI next contacts: another telephone conversation, which is to take place soon, a meeting in November at the summit of the Economic Community of Asia and the Pacific (APEC) in South Korea. and Trump's visit to China at the beginning of next year. According to the American leader, XI will visit the US “in a timely manner”.

The matter of finalizing the consent to the takeover of Tiktok by the American consortium was to be, according to Trump's earlier announcement, the main topic of conversations, but it is not clear whether it happened. The Chinese message from the conversation suggests that the agreement has not yet been concluded.

“China's position on the Tiktok case is clear: the Chinese government respects the will of the interested company and with satisfaction would accept fruitful trade negotiations, in accordance with market principles, which will lead to a solution to Chinese law and regulations, taking into account the interests of both parties,” it was written.

TIMPA TRUMP's “oligarchy” tailtok?

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Tiktok agreement, which the US announced after trade talks in Madrid on Monday (September 15), assume the takeover of the application by a consortium of companies largely allied with Trump, including the Oracle IT group and investment funds from the Silicon Valley – Silver Lake and Andreessen Horowitz. The consortium would take over 80 percent. shares in Tiktoku, but the application would still use the Chinese recommendation algorithm.

Despite the mention of Trump about the progress of the end of the war in Ukraine, such worries were not included in the Chinese communication.

In a Thursday interview with Fox News, Trump speculated that if European countries imposed sanctions or duties on China for supporting Russia, Beijing would extort the end of the war with Ukraine in Russia. He also announced that he would decide on a similar step towards the PRC, but he cannot criticize China for buying Russian oil, if European countries do the same.
