The construction of the EU “wall” against drones needs the support of the Member States – said European Commission spokesman Thomas Regnier. He added that member countries can reach for funds for this initiative, including from the SAFE loan program.

As a spokesman admitted, the invasion of Russian drones into the Polish airspace showed that the EU is in the face of huge threats.
– The chairwoman of the EC Ursula von der Leyen clearly expressed herself in her message about the state of the Union last week: together with the Member States we will build a wall against drones. Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius is working on it – said the spokesman.
He added that the EU needs the support of the Member States regarding the construction of the “wall”. – Member States must fully support this initiative. (…) How can we use the financial instruments we have at our disposal? The chairwoman again mentioned Safe (loan program for defense – PAP). Some of the SAFE components – if Member States want to use them and present them in the national plans that will submit committees by November 30 – will help create an antimiconic wall. We have EDIP (EU program aimed at strengthening the European defense industry – PAP), which will soon be adopted. We have a European defense fund, already fully functional – noted the Regnier.
He added that the EC is also ready to support technical cooperation with Member States and the defense industry to build a “wall” protecting against drones.
When asked when the project should be expected, he replied that “as soon as possible”.
We are dealing with a crisis situation. (…) Member States are now in the spotlight and must submit these national plans until November 30. We will take care of the rest – he assured.
