Rubio: I wouldn't say Putin felt emboldened at Alaska

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Monday that he did not think that the invasion of Russian drones into the Polish airspace was proof that the peak in Alaska dared Vladimir Putin. He said that President Trump could decide to impose sanctions at some point.

Rubio replied in this way in an interview with Fox News in Israel to the journalist's attention that the invasion of Russian drones on the territory of Poland and Romania shows that Putin felt dared after the August meeting with Donald Trump in Alaska.

“I wouldn't say that after the meeting he felt ridiculed.” Rather, I would say that this is an example of why the president thinks that this war must end. The wars will usually get worse. They will deteriorate, not improve, if they continue to follow the same path, especially in the case of a prolonged war, such as the one, taking into account that both sides are deeply wrapped – said the head of American diplomacy and national security advisor. He said that drone attacks take place far from the front line and have no influence on it.

– They are mainly to weaken each other. Ukrainians also conduct attacks in Russia – noted Rubio. He added that in the end, the consent of both sides to the end of the war.

– As you noticed, we were not able to achieve such results from the Russian side. But I repeat, this is not Trump's war. Trump inherited this war. And now President Trump is doing everything in his power to finish it – he noted.

When asked how much more President Trump intends to give Putin time before he imposes sanctions, Rubio replied that Trump would not “announce an artificial time frame”, but stated that the restriction “at some point” could be imposed. However, Rubio emphasized – following Trump – that European countries buying Russian oil buying their restrictions must also be imposed.

– The president called on our European partners to impose sanctions on their own. So if they feel deeply involved in this matter, we want to encourage them to actually do what they ask us – he added.
