The invasion of Russian drones into the Polish airspace is unacceptable, but it is not clear whether Russia intentionally sent drones to Polish territory – said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Saturday. He stated, however, that if it was an intentional step, it would be a big escalation.

“We think it is unacceptable, unfortunate and dangerous development of the situation,” Rubio told journalists before departure to Israel. As he said, although there is no doubt about this, drones were launched deliberately, “the question is whether Poland was a specific goal.”

– If the evidence leads us there, of course there will be a very escalating movement – said the head of American diplomacy, although he noted that there are other possibilities.

– But I think we want to have all the facts and we want to consult our allies before we decide something specific – added Rubio.

Despite the condemnation of the incident, this is another statement of a representative of the American authorities suggesting – contrary to what Poland and most NATO countries say – that 19 Russian drones could fly into the Polish airspace inadvertently.

US President Donald Trump claimed earlier that “it could be a mistake” and that Russia could lose control of machines. During the Friday meeting of the Security Council after the UN Ambassador at the UN Dorothy Shea recognized the intensification of Russian attacks on Ukraine and a violation of Polish space – “whether deliberate or not” – as a huge disrespect for Washington's peaceful efforts.

These statements met with the answer of the Polish authorities, including Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and in Friday, also on the UN Security Council, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcin Bosacki.

– We know – I repeat – we know that it was not a mistake (…) once or twice it can be a coincidence or failure, but not 19 times, not 19 enforcements carried out within seven hours – said the Polish deputy minister.

After the Friday meeting, Bosacki admitted that Poland would like Trump to make more unambiguous statements in this matter, but noted that Warsaw has the support of Washington, among others On the NATO forum, which is to be visible soon.
