The ETS2 system under the fire of criticism. In this country, Poland has a coalition partner

The Polish government critically refers to the EU proposal of the emission allowance trade mechanism – ETS2, indicating that it can mean, among others Increased energy fees. We are not alone in it.
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala met on Friday in Brno with the chairman of the European Council, Antonio Costa, to discuss key issues of the European Union climate policy. Prague demands the revision of current regulations, which – as Fiala claims – can pose a threat to European industry. The ETS2 system was in the center of the talks, against which the Czech Republic is trying to build an international coalition.

Climate policy under fire. The Czech Republic want changes
According to a press release, which sent the Prime Minister's office, Petr Fiala emphasized the need to change the EU climate policy to avoid a negative impact on the competitiveness of the European economy. Particular attention was paid to the ETS2 system, which extends trade in CO2 emissions to transport and construction sectors.
After the meeting, no press conference was organized, which – according to some media – may be associated with the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic. Instead, the details of the conversations were provided in the form of a press release.
“I emphasized the need to reduce energy prices in Europe, revive the European economy and lift unnecessary regulations and bureaucracy. We also dealt with foreign policy and security, both in relation to Ukraine, the Middle East and relations with the USA, “Prime Minister Fiala concluded in the communiqué.

ETS – what is it?
ETS (English Emissions trading system) it Carbon dioxide emission allowance trade system in the European Union. In short:
- Each enterprise covered by the system receives or buys CO2 emission rights
- If the company emits less than it has permissions, it can sell them to other companies
- If he emits more, he must buy additional rights or pay a penalty
The ETS goal is Limiting greenhouse gas emissions By introducing a market mechanism – companies have a financial incentive to reduce emissions.
