US President Donald Trump, who advocates a Nobel Peace Prize, will rename a key portfolio in his office in one with a direct war reference, Business Insider reports.

Fox News told Thursday that Trump is to sign a presidential order to change the name of the Defense Department, widely known as the Pentagon due to the emblematic building that houses it, in the Department of the War.

A White House official confirmed the information for Business Insider. The US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, redistributed on the “X” Fox News news about the subject, emphasizing his own “department of war”.

The change of name will most likely be subject to the approval of the Congress.

Pentagon is the latest example of Trump's strategy to rename institutions, something that has been concerned since the beginning of the second term. Immediately after taking over the position, Trump issued on January 20 a presidential order entitled “Restoring the names that honor the greatness of America”.

“The attribution of names to our national treasures, including natural wonders of amazing beauty and historical art works, should honor the contributions of the viewers and patriots from the rich past of our nation,” he said.

What other names did Donald Trump change

On the very first day of mandate he signed on January 20 an executive order for the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico in the Gulf of America, triggering a diplomatic dispute with the state in southern US. Google Maps has changed for US users the name of the water basin to reflect Trump's order, although it targeted government institutions and Google is a private company.

Also on the first day of mandate, Trump changed the name of McKinley Mountain, named after the 25th president of the US, William McKinley. The name of the mountain, the highest in North America, had been changed in 2015 by former Democrat President Barack Obama in Mount Denali – the name used for him by the indigenous tribes of Alaska.

More recently, Trump announced in May that it will rename the day of November 11, previously known in the US as Veterans Day, on Victorian Day in World War I.

In a message distributed on his social network Truth Social on May 1, Donald Trump said that the US “won both wars”, but that the country does not celebrate those victories properly.
