Trump criticizes India for trading with Russia. He talks about a definite proposal


The president's commentary appeared a day after the meeting of Prime Minister India, Narendra Modi, with the leaders of Russia and China during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Tiencin. Meanwhile, last Wednesday, a double, 50 % American duties on goods from India, imposed by Washington in response to purchases of Russian oil and military equipment by Delhi, came into force.

Despite the previous declarations of vice president Vance about the achievement of a trade agreement with India, such a contract has still not been signed. This means that India remain one of the few large countries that do not have a formal trade agreement with the USA. In other countries that signed such agreements, not only the abolition of most duties to American goods, but also for multi -billion investments and purchases of raw materials, armament and agricultural products from the USA.
“It was a completely unilateral disaster! India buy most of oil and military products from Russia, and very little from the United States. Now they have offered to lower their duties to zero, but it gets late” – wrote Trump.

Critics of duties' increases warn that this movement may weaken Washington's existing efforts in cultivating relations with India as counterweight to the growing power of China. India remain an important alternative center of industrial production for American and international companies that have previously placed investments in China.
