There is “wide support” of many states of the European Union for Ukrainian military personnel training, including in Ukraine after reaching a termination with Russia, the head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas said on Friday, reports Agerpres.
“I welcome the fact that there is a wide support today for the extension of the mandate of our military mission to provide training and counseling inside Ukraine after any kind of armistice,” Kallas said in the margin of an informal defense meeting in the EU states, held in Copenhagen.
Kallas did not give details about how many Member States support these plans.
The modification of the mandate of the current EU military assistance mission in support of Ukraine (Eumam Ukraine) would require unanimous approval from all 27 EU states.
The European Union trains Ukrainian military from 2022, Kaja Kallas recalling that, so far, their number is 80,000.
Training of military personnel in Ukraine and strengthening the country's defense industry could be part of the European post-war guarantees, in addition to individual EU member states.
