The legionary quote of Zelea Codreanu, approved by over 50% of Romanians

59% of Romanians believe that the Legionary Movement was a criminal movement, but 50% agree with a quote from the book “For legionaries” written by the former legionary leader Corneliu Zelea Codreanu. At least that's how an opinion poll looks.

The opinion poll conducted by Avangarde on a sample of 1,100 respondents at national level, shows how they respond to a quote of former regional leader Corneliu Zelea Codreanu, although condemning the Legionary Movement.
Ask if the Legionary Movement was a criminal organization, 50% of the respondents respond “yes”, but another 17% indicate “no”, while 24% refrain from giving an answer.

The answers are changed according to gender or level of studies. 61% of women indicate that the legionary movement was a criminal organization, while among men the percentage decreases to 58%. 20% of men indicate that “no”, and among women this percentage reaches 13%.
73% of those with higher education respond that the legionary movement was a criminal organization. The percentage reaches 53% in the case of high school and 51% in the case of those with studies below high school. Only 14% of those with higher education respond that “no” was a criminal organization, the percentage reaching 17% in the case of high school and 23% in the case of studies below high school.
Marshal Antonescu, a hero or a war criminal?
29%of the respondents indicate that Marshal Antonescu was a hero, the percentage of those who say he was a war criminal is 35%, and the percentage of those who do not answer reaches 36%.

The figures change similar to gender or level of studies. The highest percentage of those who do not respond is in the case of women. 29% of women indicate that he was a hero, and 34% was a war criminal. The highest percentage of those who indicate that he was a war criminal is men, 38%. 28% indicates that he was a hero.
The highest percentage of those who do not answer is those with high school studies, 50%. At the opposite pole, in the case of those with higher education, only 24% refuse to give an answer, 41% indicating that he was a war criminal and another 35% indicating that he was a hero, in the amebe cases being the highest percentages.

Ask if I agree with the statement “Let's make a country like the holy sun in the sky”, 50% of the respondents agree. Most men, 53%. Depending on the level of studies, most of those who agree or do not agree with those with higher education, 51% respectively 41%.

The survey was conducted by the telephone interview method, with a maximum sampling error of +/- 3%, at a level of 95%.
In Romania, legionary propaganda is forbidden by law. “The act of the person to promote, in public, the cult of persons guilty of committing genocide offenses against humanity and war crimes, as well as the act of promoting, in public, ideas, conceptions or fascist, legionary, racist or xenophobic, within the meaning of art. 2 letter. a), is punished by imprisonment from 3 months to 3 years and the prohibition of rights”, Provides for Ordinance 31/2002.
