Rareș Cojoc (37 years old) and Andreea Matei (30 years old) have achieved a new performance for the Romanian sports dance, winning the German Open Championships competition from Stuttgart, one of the three Grand Slam.

Specifically, the two dancers won the German Open Championships from Stuttgart, confirming that at this moment they form the best pair of sports dance, in the standard category.

The podium was completed by the Poles Dariusz Mycka and Madara Freiberga and the Danish Dmitri Kolobov and Signe Busk. The 5th place in this contest was obtained by the couple Georgy Kalashnikov/Daria Grigore, which represents Romania in international competitions.

A Grand Slam Standard WDSF is an important contest in which couples have to dance 5 different types of dances: Vals, Tango, Vienese Vals, Slow Foxtrot and Quickstep.

The German Open Championships is one of the most important competitions in this sport. “Almost 30 years old I had this dream in mind, which gave me no peace at any training“, Rareș told Freedom.

“Their elegance, strength and precision have conquered the jury and the public, raising Romania on the highest step of the podium,” the Romanian Federation of Sports Dance.

After ranking second at the first Slam of the year, the one at Blackpool, and took the gold at the Grand Slam in Wuxi, Rareș Cojoc and Andreea Matei climbed the first position in the world ranking before the Grand Slam in Stuttgart and Rome.

According to Freedom, Cojoc has 23 national titles in juniors and seniors from so many participations and is legitimized at the Dance Viorilor Club in Reghin. He is the son of businessman Liviu Cojoc and Dr. Mihaela Cojoc and, since 2016, is married to the star Andreea Popescu. Instead, Matei is legitimized in the capital at CS Dinamo.

The successful couple was made up by the Italian coaches Giordano and Katia Vanone.
