Lithuania will send soldiers to Ukraine? President: We are ready


In an interview with TV3 Gitanas Nauseda estimated that it could be about 200 soldiers – as much as the country he sent in a mission to Afghanistan.

“Lithuania's involvement in a peace mission will probably not be significantly different in terms of quantity from what we have done in Afghanistan,” Nauseda said.
The president emphasized, however, that it is too early to talk about sending soldiers, because “perhaps other things will be required from us” as part of participating in the “Coalition of Volunteers”.
“We are ready to bring as much as the Sejm's mandate allows, both by sending peace forces and through our military equipment,” Nauseda assured.

What is a coalition of volunteers?
“Coalition of the Volunteers” was established in March this year. On the initiative of the Prime Minister of Great Britain Keira Starmer in order to develop a comprehensive support plan for Ukraine after the conclusion of a peace agreement. It includes 33 states.
