Expert after the Putin-Trump meeting. “Putin got what he wanted”

US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin described their Friday meeting in Alaska as “constructive”, but after suddenly the conversations did not give specific arrangements. Trump pointed out that they agreed in many matters, but several important issues remained unsolved.
It was Putin's first visit to the USA in 10 years and his first meeting with the leader of this country, since in 2022 Russia began a full -scale war against Ukraine. Before the summit, Trump announced that his goal was to achieve a suspension of weapons and threatened Russia with severe consequences if it did not happen.
– Putin got what he wanted. Trump still has to wait. We really don't know what was established. After statements made in the company of journalists, we did not learn anything from the presidents. Trump only said that progress was made, but there is no agreement – Dr. Bryc from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń told PAP.
The expert assesses Putin's speech. “The Russians have achieved their goal”
In her opinion After Putin's speech, you can guess that the Russians have achieved their goal – They maintained the continuity of conversations with Washington, they did not scare Trump, they did not give him an excuse to break the conversations. – At the same time, Putin invited the US President to Moscow in the last sentence. This means that The strategy of “chasing a bunny”, or microchs, works. Trump had to get something that personally or bilaterals satisfies him, which did not allow him to withdraw from conversations or impose sanctions on Russia. At the same time, this is not such an achievement that would actually stop operating on the front – said Dr. Bryc.
It is in no way surprised that During the meeting in Alaska, Russia's attack in east of Ukraine continued.
– This is the Modus Operandi Russians. At the same time, they can talk at the negotiating table, and at the same time bombard their victim. This is a Russian classic, this had to be expected – emphasized a specialist in Eastern affairs from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.
Russia's interests or peace conversations?
In her opinion, leaders of Western Europe must do their job. – It is strange that there is still no information that Trump would talk to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelnski. So the question is whether Putin and Trump talked more about the interests of the US-Russia or the situation on the front and ending of Russian aggression at Ukraine-analyzed Dr. Bryc.
– Putin's speech after this meeting was very optimistic, but propaganda, not informative. We are information in the same situation as before this peak. We don't know what happened. It can be assumed that Putin gave something to Trump, but I do not know if it is anything that brings us closer to the end of Russian aggression, whether it is more likely, commercial offer – pointed out a political scientist from the Nicolaus Copernicus University.
In the opinion of Dr. Bryc, the leaders of Western Europe should think about subsequent sanctions against Russia and the cleansing of the sanction regime from weak points, such as the great business celebrating sanctions.
– They must make progress in taking over frozen Russian assets from the central bank. New ideas appear here, but you just have to realize them. They must lead to a situation in which, without European countries and Ukraine, this conflict cannot be resolved, i.e. a counterweight to Trump's risky findings with Putin – pointed out Dr. Bryc.
Transfer of Russian propaganda. “Supersztha between superpower leaders”
Dr. Bryc emphasized that now Russian propaganda will talk about “superpowers 'superpowers'.
– Such a peak like the Cold War. There will be an impression that Trump is talking to Moscow, like US leaders with the leaders of the USSR, that Europe and Ukraine do not count, and the world order is forged in bilateral conversations in Alaska. The Russians will create the impression of the creation of the US-Russia alliance that they are close and brotherly countries. The Russians will beat the tones to which Trump is susceptible to. Putin spoke clearly and clearly that if Trump were president in 2021 and 2022, then the war in Ukraine would not happen. Propaganda's success is therefore complete for Russia – ended Dr. Bryc. After a meeting of about 2.5 hours at the air base in Anchorage in Alaska, both leaders made short statements, but did not answer journalists' questions. There was no announcement of the arms suspension, and Trump admitted that no agreement was concluded. He assessed, however, that great progress had been achieved and he added that he would probably meet Putin again soon.
Russian leader was the first to speak at the conference. – I hope that our arrangements will open the way to the room Putin said. He expressed the hope that the agreement with Trump would not only allow the resolution of the Ukrainian “issue”, but also to renew the business ties from the USA.
He also stated that he hopes that “Ukraine and Europe will not try to” sabotage conversations. He noted that he agreed with Trump that Ukraine's security should be assured, but repeated Russia's position that the original causes of the conflict must be resolved.
In turn, Trump said that “there were many, many points”, which he agreed with Putin, but admitted that there were still a few big problems that “not quite” were resolved, although some progress was made in them.
– So there is no agreement until everything is agreed. In a moment I will call NATO, call various people, which I consider to be appropriate, and first I will call the president (Ukraine Volodymyr) of Zełenski and tell him about today's meeting. Ultimately, they have to agree, “Trump said.
