The newspaper reminds that social welfare homes (DPS) can provide care not only in the form of permanent residence for the elderly or disabled people in need, but can also provide short -term support services. Allowing this amendment to the regulations entered into force on November 1, 2023.

According to the diary, few facilities decided to launch places for temporary stay, and there are mainly formal requirements that must be met so that they can work.

Statistics of the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy for 2024, which “DGP” cites, show that the places of short -term stay operated in 34 dps. In total – as we read – all facilities had 151 places for a short stay, including 145 to 24 -hour, and six to daily. In total, 167 people used them last year.

As the newspaper points out, taking into account that there are over 800 dps throughout the country, it is a small percentage of them offers places of temporary care.

– We wanted to physically use places free at the moment. However, in a situation where the house decides to transform some of the places provided for an indefinite period of time for a short stay, they are blocked for any permanent residents. So I am not surprised by the directors that they do not want to risk and do not decide on such action-emphasizes Sylwia Kamińska-Tereszkiewicz, director of the DPS in Skęczno, cited by “DGP”, president of the National Association of Local Government Directors of DPS.

He adds that representatives of the institutions expressed their fears that rigid regulations may cause little interest in providing a new service during their procedure, but their voice was not included by the family ministry. (PAP)
