Since the beginning of the war with Russia, almost three and a half years ago, European military aid has reached 80.5 billion euros, compared to 64.6 billion euros from the US, reports AFP and EFE, taken over by Agerpres.
This spring, the level of European support equal to the American one, and in the meantime. More and more of the delivered armament does not come from existing stocks, but directly from the defense industry, against the background of the exhaustion of national military reserves.
In May and June, European military aid totaled 10.5 billion euros, of which 44% (4.6 billion) were contracts mainly awarded to European and Ukrainian companies in the field of defense.
Germany offered the largest package – 5 billion euros, followed by Norway (1.5 billion) and Belgium (1.2 billion). The Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Denmark each contributed between 500 and 600 million euros.
These contributions are, in part, part of a new NATO mechanism by which European states buy US weapons and ammunition to provide Ukraine, according to US President Donald Trump, who has given up direct military equipment donations.
Washington has approved important weapons exports to Kiev in May, but these are acquired by Ukraine from their own funds or by European allies. The US remains involved only by deliveries from the packages approved by the former Biden administration.
US Vice President JD Vance said at Fox News on Sunday that “I finished with the financing of this war in Ukraine,” Noting that if Europeans want to buy weapons from American producers, Washington will not oppose.
President Donald Trump is to meet on Friday, August 15, with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska, to discuss a possible agreement what might include “Territorial exchanges” meant to end the conflict.
