PSD calls for decency, but who actually rejected Ion Iliescu? How the “road comrades” from Kiseleff executed him without embarrassment

Ion Iliescu is worn, after his death, as a miracle -making icon by the PSD leaders. In life, they were indifferent to them in the last 15-20 years and they tried, as much as they could, to delimit it. Lack of identity, solid values and principles, the collapse of the new PSD in polls, forces Sorin Grindeanu, Marcel Ciolacu or Victor Ponta to stick to the image of a former president with whom they did not share any idea, with whom they have nothing in common.
In Kiseleff, in a true procession of hypocrisy, the PSD leaders launch praiseworthy messages in which they are shocked about the crimes and victims from the Revolution, Mining or a stain that could stretch Ion Iliescu's image. For three days, the former honorary president becomes the “Patriarch” from the headquarters, as he was encouraged when his power was undeniable. Dead or withdrawn as it was in recent years is no longer a danger.
If you take a step in the back you ask yourself: is it a deep, authentic respect, of common values that are found in the ideological fiber of the Social Democrats or just a new masquerade of former comrades on the road? Left drift to be saved by a dead, or he and former president?
On Facebook, messages of indignation of the leadership members flow, even a revolution is mimicing in the ruling coalition, I can no longer stay at the table with the users who do not respect Ion Iliescu. Dead, not in life.
The tone is held by several party's home television, one controlled by Sebastian Ghiță, former PSD member and the one who wanted to become the party president. In the meantime, he is a fugitive, through Serbia, but the TV station takes a true campaign against the “Resites” that denigrate Ion Iliescu.
Stop. Let's run the movie a little. On November 27, 2014, a few days after Victor Ponta lost the presidential elections in front of Klaus Iohannis, who declares Ion Iliescu war?
Yes, we find Sebastian Ghiță. Do not forget, at that moment, Iliescu was no longer a parliamentarian, he had no functions in the party, he was just a honorary president. Why was Ghiță so much? What combinations spoils them?
“At 84 years old, Iliescu can no longer be the PSD symbol. In four years, at every important moment, Ion Iliescu came and settled next to the PSD president. What do you think I understand 25 -year -old people are standing next to us and deciding things?”, Sebastian Ghiță intervened at Digi24.
In a press release given after a party meeting, the former PSD deputy was even more explicit: “Ion Iliescu must withdraw! … Everyone with problems with preventive arrests and serious situations must be suspended from the PSD. We need an integrity code and a central commission with decision-making power.”
Do you think Sebastian Ghiță gave this message without the science of Victor Ponta, president of the party at that time? Was the Ghiță-Ponta tandem fear that Ion Iliescu games for Liviu Dragnea? The most possible.
Iliescu had just announced at the Gaudeamus Book Fair that he wanted to organize an extraordinary congress.
Iliescu's maneuver by which Ponta won
In just four years, Ponta forgot that he won the Congress in February 2010, in front of Mircea Geoană, due to an intervention of Ion Iliescu, the one who at the last moment vote for the head of the list for vice -presidents. In 2014, all these things did not count anymore, Iliescu had become a ballast for the new Ghiță-Ponta team.
However, Ion Iliescu remains in the party and supports Liviu Dragnea at the next Congress.
Dragnea judged Iliescu
What does Liviu Dragnea do, the one that Ion Iliescu supported after Ponta's departure from the party? We find the shocking moment for social-democrats even at the PSD Congress in October 2015, an event at which Dragnea is required as the new Maximum leader.
Dragnea's indictment directly concerns Ion Iliescu, first of all. If the prosecutors did not finish the file of the revolution or the mining, if the judges did not decide the sentence of Iliescu, that moment was felt as a punishment for the former honorary president.
“He was executed here, with everyone,” a party leader told me. Many were silent and applauded, Ponta drove her head down. Symbolistic, the moment bore the name “breaking the past”.
“For a long time we did not have the courage to take on the history of Romania as it was. We were afraid to assume the recent past, having an explanation that may seem rational … We did not have the courage to condemn the crimes of the communist dictatorship.
In order for the ritual to go to the end, Ion Iliescu was set to stand up, along with all the members of Congress, to apologize by a moment of silence.
Dragnea drew an imaginary line between those of the past and those who make decisions today in the PSD. The past was Iliescu, he was the culprit. Those in 2015 are innocent.
Deleted from the party's website. Ciolacu was rejecting him
After 2015, Ion Iliescu disappears as an honorary president of the PSD. His picture is later deleted from the party's website. Everything in silence, as a natural evolution. No one revolt, everyone knows that Ion Iliescu is to avoid, a hot topic.
“I do not know if he is an honorary president, it is not a priority of my Mr. Iliescu, if he is a president of honor,” said Marcel Ciolacu in 2020, after taking over in the party.
There would be much to say about Mircea Geoana. Baptized the “fool” by Iliescu, he was not due. Asked how the former Honor President of the PSD would respond briefly, in 2024: “Miners' friend.”
Not right to execute Iliescu. They did it even party colleagues
Mircea Geoană is also the expression of the way in which Ion Iliescu respected.
Have you ever wondered why Ion Iliescu, if he had the best mandate of PSD president, the best mandate of president of Romania, if he took Romania to NATO and the EU, if he was a president sympathized by the people, was executed by his own party at six months after completing his mandate as president? For the young, Ion Iliescu was beaten at Congress by Mircea Geoană.
How was it possible for a party that gives us lessons today about the historical role played by Ion Iliescu, about its international dimension, to be the one who did not recognize the merits?
It was enough “I give the word comrade Năstase”, a backstage game of the group from Cluj, so that the Social Democrats were rejected by Ion Iliescu. Not the right executed in April 2005, but the former comrades on the road. Have you forgotten somehow?
A party without authentic left leaders
The PSD problem is that after Ion Iliescu, with all his sins, he failed to produce authentic left leaders.
Victor Ponta, passionate about golf and trips to Dubai, was perceived as a right -wing prime minister, Liviu Dragnea could not be head of Victoria Palace and arrived from the chair of the Chamber of Deputies directly in prison, Mircea Geoană was always “the American man”.
Tandem Ciolacu-Grindeanu rushed to the caviar and Nordis flights. The left in Romania has a major, concrete, undisputed identity problem. And the fault is not the USR, but of the leaders of recent years.
Social Democrats can blame the USR for the lack of respect shown to Ion Iliescu. But before asking for others respect and decency, many offices through Kiseleff should be asked: did you respect Ion Iliescu to ask this to others? Or do you just like him dead because he can't tangle you now?
Do you think if you cling to him you save you? What is left in Romania today, how do you solve the identity crisis of a mammoth party? Ion Iliescu had a belief, good, bad, he held on to him. What do you think in?
