The Secretary General of PNL, Dan Motreanu, resigned from the management of the PNL Giurgiu branch on Thursday, because the position was incompatible with that of Secretary General. In a press release announces the resignation of Motreanu, PNL praises the activity of the party leader.
Dan Motreanu resigned from the position of PNL President Giurgiu on Thursday, during a session at the subsidiary, according to the Liberals.
“The decision comes from taking over the position of Secretary General of the National Liberal Party, following the PNL Congress – a function that is incompatible with that of president of a county organization,” says PNL, in the press release.
After the resignation of Motreanu, the interim management of the branch will be taken over by the current president of the Giurgiu County Council, Toma Petcu, also reports PNL.

PNL details further the activity of Dan Motreanu at the leadership of PNL Giurgiu.
“We remind that Dan Motreanu took over the management of the PNL Giurgiu organization in 2019, when it had only five mayors, no parliamentarian and an election score of 11% in the parliamentary elections,” according to the Liberals.
“In 2020, PNL Giurgiu became the main political force in the county, winning both the County Council and the City Hall of Giurgiu. In 2024, the PNL Giurgiu organization became the first liberal organization in the country that obtained, among others, the management of the County Council, the City Hall of Giurgiu, 43 Six years in Dan Motreanu's PNL Giurgiu head.

The PNL National Political Bureau validated, on July 24, unanimously, the appointment of Dan Motreanu as Secretary General of the party, at the proposal made by President Ilie Bolojan.
“With a long experience in political life and party structures, Dan Motreanu returns to a key position within the PNL,” PNL said at that time.
Dan Motreanu is currently also a MEP. In the past, he was three times a deputy (from 2004 to 2016). Motreanu is based on a teacher of history and physical education. It has been in PNL since 1997. In 2005, it entered the PNL executive office for the first time, according to its CV. In 2006-2007 he was the Minister of Agriculture.
Dan Motreanu was acquitted, in June 2019, by the High Court of Cassation and Justice in the file in which he was accused of receiving bribe for financing the 2008 election campaign. The decision was final.
