The EU reacts to the decision of the President of Ukraine. It is about the signature under the important act


In a statement published on the X platform, the leaders of EU institutions emphasized that the independence of anti -corruption bodies, as well as the reform of the judiciary, are crucial for the further progress of Ukraine in the process of accession to the European Union. “The Union will continue to support these activities” – they assured.

The previous act caused a wave of social opposition. In the largest cities of Ukraine, despite the ongoing war, there were mass protests. Citizens, especially young people, gathered in the capital, demanding the protection of the independence of anti -corruption institutions. Protest actions took place, among others Near the Parliament headquarters in Kiev.
The changes from July were also sharply criticized by the European Commission, G7 countries and a number of Western capitals, which warned that such activities could threaten further financial support for Ukraine and slow down its integration with the EU.
The act was voted by the Supreme Council on Thursday. It was supported by 331 deputies, which is a clear majority in a 450-person parliament. New regulations aboutDwing earlier changes from July 22, which limited the independence of NAB and SAP, subordinating them to the Prosecutor General Ruslan Krawczenko – to an official closely related to the Chancellery of the President.
NABU and SAP independence is one of the pillars of reforms initiated after the revolution of dignity in 2013–2014. The protection of these institutions is considered a test of Ukraine's determination in the fight against corruption and the construction of the state of law.

The new law was prepared by the president's administration as a response to the political and social crisis, which was caused by earlier regulations. The document not only restores NAB and SAP independence, but also limits the impact of the Prosecutor General on their activities.
According to international commentators and partners, the adoption of a new law is an important signal that Ukraine intends to continue the reform and keep their obligations towards the society and the European community.
