The media learned how Matvienko got to Geneva, despite the sanctions of the EU

The data of the online tracking service that the agency gives, indicate that the aircraft with Matvienko flew over Turkey and the Mediterranean Sea, arrived in Geneva through Italy and flew to Moscow through the airspace of France and Italy.

According to Bloomberg interlocutors in Rome, Italy allowed the plane with Matvienko to enter its airspace, since the Switzerland government asked her about this. After that, the Italian government allegedly consulted with the France authorities, who received a similar request, after which they provided permission.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris did not immediately respond to a request for a comment from the agency.

The speaker of the Switzerland Foreign Ministry refused to comment on the situation with the Matvienko aircraft, but stated that the government could allow excluding an exception from a local prohibition of a trip described in sanctions in detail, “especially if a person travels to participate in the international conference.” He noted that although the Swiss airspace is closed to Russian aircraft, “there are exceptions, in particular, for flights carried out for humanitarian, medical or diplomatic purposes.”
