People's calendar
Akila day, patrols
Akila, whose memory is performed on this day, was an apostle from seventy (as they call the direct students of the twelve apostles).
In Rus' on this day it was customary to please Polevoy – an invisible spirit, the owner of the field (by analogy with the brownie). A pot of porridge was left for him at the last strip of harvest, and a bunch of rye on the very strip. Such a ceremony was considered the key to a good harvest for the next year.
By this time, winds with whirlwinds and rains with thunderstorms often flew into the fields – therefore, the crop had to be guarded, to go out by the patrol (hence the second name of the day – the patrols). The peasants thought that an unclean force flies in the vortices, and even the devil itself; If a zipper falls into such a whirlwind during a thunderstorm, evil spirits turn into pets, a bird, and sometimes a child. In order not to accept the demon for an innocent creature and not allow him to attack, people carefully watched the fields, especially in bad weather.
Thunderstorms in Rus' were afraid because people often died from lightning – both from the blows themselves and from fires. From a thunderstorm and from whirlwinds they were saved and conspiracies. “The winds and whirlwinds are embossed, over -and -embarrassed, universal, half -day, forest, marsh, meadow, I will send you to the clean fields, in the blue of the sea, to the rot of the swamps. I don’t send you to you, Mother Mother of God sends you,” one of them sounded.
After heavy thunderstorms and rains, mushrooms began to grow, so children who are not engaged in field work were sent to the forest. Adults, as a rule, were not up to this – there were enough cases of harvesting and hayfields.
