Terrible news in Romanian football! David Oprescu, the player of CSM Slatina and the son of coach Daniel Oprescu, died at 26!
He was operated on in England, two years ago, at a mole he had on his back, according to liga2.ro. Unfortunately, his health has become worse, which is why he had evolved in an official match for more than a year.
He was recently diagnosed with meningitis, this being the cause of the footballer's death.

David is the son of Daniel Oprescu, a technician who last prepared CSM Slatina, a club from which he broke up in November 2024. This was, among other things, the national and U19 national team of Romania.
David Oprescu was legitimized in Slatina in January 2019. The last time had evolved in an official match on May 11, 2024, in a Chindia-CSM Slatina 3-0. It had been sent to the field then in the 75th minute, in stage 7 of the League 2 play-out.
“Lord, what a terrible news! The angels to watch your smooth way to God! Sincerely condolences to the grieving family!”, Was the message of Cătălin Doman, former teammate of the late footballer.

The funeral of the footballer will take place in Piatra Olt.
In 2020, Slatina managed to promote in Liga 2. David Oprescu played 24 matches. In season 2021-2022 he evolved in Liga 3 with Slatina. The club then returned to the second step. Later, in the 2022-2023 season, with Daniel Oprescu, his father, on the bench, ticked 22 presence.
In the season 2023-2024 he played his last official matches, 60 minutes in 0-2 with Steaua, on April 27, 2024, and 16 minutes in 0-3 with Chindia, on May 11, 2024.
Ianis Stoica, the left midfielder from Hermannstadt and a colleague with David in Slatina in the 2020-2021 season, posted a message of condolences on social networks.
