The backstage of the power to fight in the PSD. How Sorin Grindeanu saved Paul Stănescu from the anger of young wolves

When dividing the functions in the Government, in the PSD there was a close struggle between the old leaders in the party and the “young wolves”. The dispute was arbitrated by the leader Sorin Grindeanu, who offered the young people of the Ministry of Health, but at the same time saved Paul Stănescu. The price: Stanescu will no longer run for a leadership position in the party at the Congress in the fall, political sources say for the truth. Instead, Sorin Grindeanu offered the head of the Court of Accounts, instead of Mihai Busuioc, promoted to the Constitutional Court. But the mandate is only one year and three months, and Paul Stanescu hesitates to resign from the Parliament, where he can remain until December 2028.

The negotiations for the power functions in the state divided the camps into the PSD. On the one hand, the young wolves, who tried to draw the secretary general of the party, Paul Stănescu. “Paul Stănescu's stake was to keep the Ministry of Agriculture for Florin Barbu. The others were coalized against him and took Sorin Moise to advance. Even though it is from Braila, Mihai Tudose's fierce, the former prime minister was not very involved in the Internal War. The match was between Stănescu and the new leadership gasket, including Alfred Simonis from Timiș, George Soldan from Suceava, Corneliu Stefan from Dâmbovița and others”, Sources from the leadership of the Party for Truth.
If Florin Barbu had lost the internal dispute for the Ministry of Agriculture, the young wolves from the PSD were planning to ask Paul Stănescu's resignation from the position of Secretary General of the Party, the sources quoted. But Florin Barbu was imposed on the mustache: only 7 votes had more the candidate supported by Paul Stănescu. And the additional votes came after the party leaders, including the interim president Sorin Grindeanu, passed on the last hundred meters on the side of Paul Stănescu.
In fact, Sorin Grindeanu reached an agreement with Paul Stănescu. The current secretary general of the party appointed his trusted man, but it was his last major move inside the PSD. At the Congress in the autumn, Paul Stănescu will no longer run for a leadership position in the PSD, say the sources cited.
In contrast, Sorin Grindeanu offered Paul Stănescu the position of president of the Court of Accounts, occupied until the last days by Mihai Busuioc, promoted in the meantime at the CCR. The problem would be the duration of the mandate. If they accepted, Paul Stănescu would have called the rest of the mandate, which means only one year and three months. Then in the autumn of 2026, Paul Stanescu could obtain, theoretically, another 9 -year term. “Nea Paul is afraid that the coalition is broken until then and remains on the outside,” the sources quoted say. In contrast, Paul Stanescu can remain a parliamentarian until the end of the term, in December 2028, when he will be 71 years old.
On the other hand, the group of young leaders in the PSD also managed to impose a favorite in the Government. For the Ministry of Health, Carmen Orban, supported by former Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, and Alexandru Rogobete, supported, in particular, by CJ Timiș, Alfred Simonis, were fought in the first phase. Finally, Carmen Orban announced that he withdraws from the race, given that he had no chance to vote in front of Rogobete, sources from the PSD leadership. Therefore, the dispute between the young wolves in the PSD and the group of old leaders ended in a draw.
