The “zipper rule”, included in the Road Code. How it helps to fluidize traffic

The Senate tacitly adopted, on Tuesday, in the plenary, a legislative proposal to supplement GEO 195/2002 regarding the traffic on public roads through which the “zipper rule” is introduced, which allows, in case of narrowing of the road, the alternative classification on the adjacent band on the affected band.

The tacit adoption note of the legislative proposal, for which the term of debate and vote was fulfilled on June 19, was presented by the president of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, who led the plenary meeting, writes Agerpres.
“When on the roads with multiple lanes per direction, traffic on one of the lanes cannot be continued due to an obstacle, a narrowing of the road or for any other reasons, drivers on the adjacent band are obliged to alternatively to vehicles on the affected band to fall on the adjacent band”provides for the legislative proposal.
The project, initiated by a group of parliamentarians predominantly from the USR, aims to improve the fluidization of traffic.
The failure to comply with the “zipper rule” constitutes a contravention and is sanctioned with a fine in the first class of sanctions, ie 2-3 fine points.
The initiators motivate their legislative proposal by the fact that the rule “will contribute to reducing congestion, preventing accidents and will cause traffic more fluently in situations of narrowing of the bands”.
“The rule of zipper aims to fluidize traffic in areas where two strips narrow into one, by alternating the entry of vehicles on each band, as in a zipper. Due to its advantages, the zipper rule is already implemented in the road legislation in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Slovakia. Accidents and will cause traffic to be carried out more fluently in situations of narrowing of the bands “, It is shown in the explanatory exposition of the draft law.
The legislative proposal will be debated by the Chamber of Deputies, for this case.
