Application to the EC for the construction of AI gigafabryka for the amount of PLN 5 billion

Until June 20, the Ministry of Digitization finalizes talks with EU partners on the project. The initial plan assumes the purchase of 30,000 Graphic processors (GPU), which will go to the five main AI centers: in Warsaw, Poznań, Krakow, Gdańsk and Wrocław. They already have a supercomputer infrastructure today, around which new clusters can be expanded.
Gigafabryka will not be one central building, but a network of connected centers, which – according to the ministry – will increase energy efficiency and digital security. The ministry has already provided the European Commission with information on the planned project in working mode. The official application is also to contain proposals to simplify investment procedures and greater financial flexibility.
AI factory. 13 locations were selected
The EC recognized the development of AI factories as a priority. 13 locations have already been selected, and the first objects will start in 2025. Two such centers are created in Poland-in Krakow (Cyfronet AGH) and in Poznań (Piast-AI), concentrating, among others at health sciences, space and robotics.
In February, the chairwoman of the EC Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU Investai Fund (20 billion euros) will finance four AI gigafabricians in the EU. They will combine powerful computing power with ecological data centers.
In April, the EC presented a “action plan for the AI continent”, focusing on investments, data, sectoral implementation, competences and regulatory simplifications.
According to the national policy of AI, by 2030 34 regional support centers will be created (including in Częstochowa, Elbląg, Suwałki, Radom) and 5 leading (in large cities). 10 key investments are planned in the latter.
