It all spent on Sunday, June 8, in Alba County, around 12:53. The SMURD crew from the Aiud Fire Section was sent to the town of Ciumbrud, where a motorcyclist was in a state of unconsciousness, following a collision with a car, according to ISU Alba, notes News.ro.

At 12:51, the call was recorded in 112, and in just two minutes the SMURD and ISU crews started for the intervention. On the route, at a level crossing with the railway in operation, with an active red signal, the ambulance driver decided to pass among the barriers, after making sure no train was approaching.

The reason for the decision was the emergency of the intervention and the exact ignorance of the number of victims or the severity of the wounds, explained the driver, who stated that he analyzed the situation with the rest of the crew and did not endanger the railway traffic.

Arriving at the scene of the accident, the SMURD paramedics found that the motorcyclist had suffered multiple trauma, a hemorrhagic wound in the shoulder, cervical lesions and abdominal pain, being taken in conscious and urgently transported to the hospital.

After the intervention is completed, the ambulance driver was invited to the Aiud Police headquarters, where he was prepared to violate the railway crossing rules. The authorities applied a fine of 1,822.5 lei, but also the suspension of the permit for 120 days, without the right of regaining during this interval.

ISU Alba has opened an internal investigation to analyze the decision made by the driver in the context of the rescue mission and to verify that the protocol was respected.

“The driver acknowledged his mistake, but explained that the decision was taken to save a life. He secured with the crew before passing and put the urgency of the intervention,” mentions ISU Alba.
