They compared strawberries from a farmer and market. The test results may be surprised

Polish strawberries are unchanged, and consumers often choose fruit from local farmers, believing that they are healthier and free of pesticides. The Pro-Test Foundation commissioned laboratory tests of strawberries bought both at the Warsaw bazaar and directly from the farmer. Fruit from popular discount stores was also looked at: Lidl and Biedronka. The test results may surprise many strawberry lovers.
The Pro-Test Foundation commissioned an accredited laboratory analysis of strawberries in terms of the presence of over 540 pesticides. Two samples were tested: one of the bazaar and the other from a farmer who sells his fruit directly from the car in Warsaw. Results? Both samples contained pesticide remains, though Under no circumstances did the permissible standards set by European regulations have been exceeded.
– Six different pesticides were detected in strawberries from the bazaar;
– Five different pesticides were found in the fruit from the farmer.
Strawberries from Lidl and Biedronka
Strawberries from popular discount stores were tested in the previous teeta. Strawberries from Lidl contained three pesticides, and those from Biedronka – seven.
Research results indicate that strawberries bought straight from a farmer or in the bazaar are not less contaminated with pesticides than those available in large commercial networks.
Although detected amounts of pesticides in any of the samples have exceeded the permissible norms, the Pro-Test Foundation draws attention to potential health threats resulting from the presence of many different chemicals. “There are no healthy pesticides” – emphasize the authors of the analysis. Even if individual substances are within the limits of norms, their total effect on human health remains not fully understood.
Pesticides in strawberries
The test results remind you that, regardless of the place of purchase, strawberries may contain pesticide residues. Consumers who want to minimize the risk of consumption of these substances should thoroughly wash the fruit before consumption or consider buying strawberries from certified ecological crops.
