Glafira Gorosnitsa
On this day, the memory of the Glafira Amasia is honored. This Virgin is known as a martyr: in 322 she was beheaded for not wanting to renounce Christianity.
In Rus', it was customary to plant peas and early potatoes on Glafira. Peas, among other things, were also spoke – for a good harvest. Other, more prosaic methods of caring for this bean were used. To protect peas from morning frosts, the beds were covered with chopped peat. The peas developed right under the peat flooring until it got so strong that no matinees would be terrible.
Dishes made of peas were prepared for lunch. The most popular was pea soup with meat and pea porridge.
