As early as 2026, Apple plans to move from China to India the assembly of all iPhone phones sold in the USA, “Financial Times said on Friday. The decision is dictated by the tightening of the trade war between Beijing and Washington.

Apple assumes double the production of telephones in Indian assembly plants in less than a year – said the British newspaper, citing a person familiar with the case. As noted, the company devoted almost 20 years to developing its production line in China. According to the “FT” source, the goal is to produce over 60 million iPhones in India, which will go to the American market.
“FT” noticed that Apple is dependent on China's production capacity, where it produces many of its products through third parties, which exposes the company to high duties imposed on imports from China by US President Donald Trump. For this reason, at the beginning of April, the company chartered freight flights to transport 600 tons from India to the USA, i.e. about 1.5 million pieces, iPhones.
Trump imposed duties on China in the amount of 145 percent, to which China responded at a tariff rate of 125 percent. This value significantly exceeds the 26 % import tariff from India, which was suspended on April 9 by Trump for the next 90 days. It is estimated that the customs policy pursued by the White House has already led Apple to the loss of $ 700 billion.
In recent years, the American technological giant has increased production capacity in India through subcontractors such as Tata Electronics and Foxconn.
Apple sells over 220 million iPhones a year in the world. The Analytical Company Counterpoint Research estimates that 20 percent all iPhones imported to the USA come from India, and the remaining part from China (PAP)
