Russian leader Vladimir Putin did not give the order to extend the Easter suspension of weapons in Ukraine, “Reuters said on Sunday, citing the statement of the spokesman Kremlin Dmitry Pieskow. The truce is to apply until midnight (23 in Poland) from Sunday to Monday.
Shortly after the information by the Kremlin, the US Department of State stated that he would be satisfied with the extension of the Easter suspension of weapons announced on Saturday by the Russian leader.
A 30-hour truce (lasting from 5pm of Polish time) was announced by Putin during a meeting in the Kremlin with the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, General Walerij Gierasimov. The leader explained this decision “in humanitarian reasons”. “We assume that Ukraine will follow our example. At the same time, our troops will be ready to repel the possible violations of the truce and the provocation of the enemy,” he said.
The President of Ukraine Wołodymyr Zelnski referred to the Russian leader's speech on Saturday evening, who wrote on platform X that if Easter truce became a fact, Ukraine suggests that it lasts not only until Sunday, but was extended. At the same time, he pointed out that despite the truce announcement, Russia continues offensive activities on many sections of the front, and its artillery continues to fire Ukrainian positions. “There is no credibility in the words from Moscow,” said the President of Ukraine.
On Sunday, Zelanski informed that despite the truce announced by Russia, there was an increase in the number of Russian shells and cases of using drones – from midnight to 16 local time (at 3pm of Polish time) Russia carried out 46 attacks.
According to Zelanski, the Russian army conducts the most active operations in the Pokrowa and Siewierz directions, in the east of Ukraine. “In fact, either Putin does not fully control his army, or (this) the situation shows that Russia is not intended to strive for the end of the war. They only need a favorable PR in the media” – said the president.
Before the Kremlin announced that the Easter truce will not be extended, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiha confirmed that Ukraine is ready for 30 days of complete suspension of weapons. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote in a telegram communication that Russia's actions after midnight, on Monday and throughout the next week will show its true attitude to the peaceful efforts of the USA and the Ukrainian proposal.
According to the Sunday statement of the Russian Ministry of Defense, cited by the Reuters agency, Ukraine broke the suspension of weapons over a thousand times, causing, among others infrastructure damage and death of civilians. The attacks were to be carried out in the Bryan, Kurski and Belgorodzi region.
Reuters has not yet been able to verify the reports of both sides from the battlefield.

Earlier, the Russian media began to distribute information about the alleged strike of the Ukrainian armed forces on Donetsk.
