Stories of people who avoided the ocean tragedy

After this case, stories about people who received an invitation to one of the oceangate expeditions appeared, but gave up. It was similar over a hundred years earlier. People with bated breath followed stories about famous personalities who almost got on Titanic, but at the last minute changed plans.
Here are seven known characters – including some of the richest people in the world – who were to flow with the virgin Titanic cruise, but did not flow. There are also four people who had a place reserved for one of the subsequent cruises of the ship.

Few people know that Marconi himself almost sailed the ship.
In his book from 1926, “My Father, Marconi” his daughter Digna wrote that Marconi received a free ticket for a virgin cruise of the ship. He refused because his stenographer got sick. Instead, Marconi decided to go to the USA three days earlier aboard Lusitania, whose stenographer he trusted more than that of Titanic.

Dreiser wrote that he wanted to return to the States on board Titanic to see the life of the richest, but his publisher convinced him to choose a cheaper ship – Kroonland – which sailed two days earlier.
“The horror of the sea reached us suddenly and directly,” wrote Dreiser. “The thought that such a powerful ship, like Titanic, new and shiny, could sink in an endless abyss … and two thousand passengers expelled from koi like rats, drifting helplessly among the ocean, praying and crying!” He added.
