The authorities of the Spanish Canary Islands announced on Saturday a state of emergency due to heavy rains, which caused a flood risk on Lanzarote, one of the archipelago islands. In the media there were recordings of flooded streets, immobilized cars and rapid gorges full of water.

The most serious situation was recorded in the central and eastern part of the Lanzarote Island, in the municipalities of Arrecife, Teguise and San Bartolome. In several regions, the weather caused breaks in power supply, and firefighters intervened over 300 times.
Within two hours in several towns, over 70 liters of water per square meter fell. “I have never seen anything like that,” a resident of Costa Teguise, quoted by the Canarias7 portal.
Local security services issued recommendations regarding behavior in an emergency and called to avoid unnecessary travels.
Meteorological services announced heavy rainfall this weekend in Spain related to Orkan Olivier.
In recent months of heavy rains in various parts of the country, Spain has experienced heavy rains. The most tragic events took place at the end of October 2024, when as a result of violent floods in the eastern part of the country, over 220 people were killed. (PAP)
