Elena Udrea was definitively sentenced to 6 years in prison in the “Gala Bute” file.
On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, Udrea requests the reduction of the six -month sentence in the “Gala Bute” file, according to the court portal. If he will win the case, he could request the conditional release from the penitentiary, after almost three years of detention.
Elena Udrea is incarcerated at the Târgşor Penitentiary in June 2022, after being extradited from Bulgaria, where she had fled shortly before the conviction. She was sued in 2015 and definitively convicted in June 2018, but she fled before the sentence was pronounced, being detected and incarcerated in Costa Rica.
She is accused of coordinating a system by which people close to her received, with her science, money from representatives of some companies to guarantee their timely payment of the Ministry of Tourism, which she was leading.
The investigators say that the amounts obtained entered either directly into the patrimony of Elena Udrea (in cash or by paying goods and services), or of the Bucharest Organization of the PDL or of the former head of the Romanian Boxing Federation, Rudel Obreja.
Elena Udrea is also accused of leaving officials from the Ministry of Tourism to violate her duties on the occasion of the purchase of advertising services at the gala where Lucian Bute was boxing.
The damage imputed Elena Udrea amounts to 3 million euros, an amount that has not yet been recovered by the Romanian state.
